I previously wrote an article about starting a new blog and how to get started with Google AdSense. Now if you think you're not getting enough 'clicks' and your Google AdSense report always says $0.00, then you've not optimized it yet. It's not just the content that matters. It involves proper layout, design, choice of keywords - the whole nine yards.

PEPENG (International Code Name PARMA) MISSES METRO MANILA

Everyone was anticipating another devastating typhoon to hit the Philippines. Pepeng (International Code Name Parma) became one of the most searched items on Google. Though it was forecast to hit the northern part of the country, Metro Manila residents were still expecting that it would still affect the region. But there was no super typhoon in Manila.

Good thing. Had it not missed Metro Manila, things would have been unimaginably crazy. Roads could have turned into rivers. Villages could have turned into lakes. I would not be writing this post.

As of 11:00 PM Saturday October 3, Pepeng has slightly weakened as it continues to traverse Extreme Northern Luzon. Most provinces of this region are still under Storm Signal No. 3.

Philippines Braced for 'Super Typhoon' PARMA aka PEPENG?

It's barely been a week since Typhoon Ketsana hit the Philippines leaving hundreds of families homeless, and hundreds dead. A lot are still reportedly missing. Some villages that were hit hard are still under water.

Now, is the island country ready for another typhoon? I don't think any country or anyone at all can be ready enough when mother nature decides to strike.

Pepeng (International code name Parma) is a super typhoon. To give you an idea what a super typhoon is, winds at 240 kph or greater. Now how about that?


Pepeng is expected to make landfall by Saturday morning in the provinces of Aurora and Isabela in Northern Luzon. According to PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration), if Pepeng continues to strengthen it could raise up to Storm Signal No. 4 which means winds of up to 215 kph over a region.

CNN's Jennifer Delgado says it's matching a Category 4 or Category 5 for the Atlantic.

I think prayer is still the best protection that we can ever have. Let us hope that it wouldn't be as devastating as predicted. Let's just be prepared. Stock up on food, drinking water and emergency lights.

Metro Manila Flooded by Typhoon Ondoy

Metro Manila is underwater!

This must be the worst flood I've ever seen in the city. Even cities like Makati, Mandaluyong & Pasig are covered with floodwater. We're not used to seeing these places getting flooded, but Ondoy was just unforgiving. All major areas are not passable including EDSA, which virtually became a river. I've never seen anything like this before.

Thousands of people got stranded in the streets. Even those who are just at home were not spared wrath of Ondoy. Young actress Cristine Reyes was stuck on their house's roof since 1:00 PM today. In a telephone interview she said according to her mom  their village hasn't seen a flood like this since 1978. But this is way worse. Another young actress Jennica Garcia who lives in a village in Quezon City was also not spared. On the phone with a talkshow host, she said they were trapped inside their house and that the water level was continuously rising.

Even famous expensive villages like Corinthian Gardens in Ortigas were affected.

Even I was unable to go home after work today because of the flood. C5 was 5 feet underwater. My boss, who left the office around noon is still on the road as of press time. It's been more than 12 gruelling hours.
According to PAGASA, Ondoy continues to move with a maximum sustained winds of 85 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 100 kph and is expected to leave the country's area of responsibility by Monday morning.

HOW TO MAKE MONEY ONLINE

Did you ever wonder how you can make money online? Or how much money you can make if you knew of ways to?

You don’t need to be a computer geek to make this work. It’s as easy as 123.

Step 1. You need to have a blog to get started. A blog (short for weblog) is a personal online journal that is frequently updated and intended for general consumption. Blogs are defined by their format: a series of entries posted to a single page in reverse-chronological order. Blogs generally represent the personality of the author or reflect the purpose of the web site that hosts the blog (Definition provided by whatis.com). But where and how do you create a blog? There are many ways. I recommend you log on to www.blogger.com. A wizard will walk you through. (But if you already have an existing online journal there’s no need to create another one.)

Step 2. Register your blog with a third-party advertiser. There are so many advertisers out there. One of the most popular ones is Google AdSense. Just log on to www.google.com/adsense/. It will require you to create a gmail account so I suggest you create one first before registering. Approval may take days but when I had mine I had it almost overnight. Once your registration gets approved, just integrate the ad code in your blog program and it will do the rest of the job.

Step 3. Maintain your blog. You may find some other resources online. Just be creative.  Be smart. Remember, the kinds of ads generated by Google depend on your blog’s content. If you have en existing web site, just paste the ad code in your source code and will generate the appropriate ads.

Get started now! Remember, the moment you think about not being able to make it, that’s the very moment you failed.

BECOMING INDEPENDENT

I grew up in an evironment where I had to do things on my own. I learned to do chores at an early age. I hated them.

Now that I'm a grown-up, I have come to realize that had I not been trained early, I wouldn't have been able to make it through those difficult times that I've been through. (naks!)

After graduating from college, I looked for a job and landed a decent one. Then I moved out. I've been independent since then.

I have a lot of friends who still live with their parents. Some are just not ready to move out. Some just can't afford to. Some just don't care.


I have listed below a few things to consider if you're planning to move out. These are based on personal experience and should only be used as a guideline.

• FINISH SCHOOL Go to college and get a degree. That's the key!
• GET A JOB Get a real job, a good-paying job. A fastfood crew job is hardly gonna cut it.
• LEARN TO COOK You'll get sick of carry-outs, believe me. If you know how to cook, you won't ever have to worry about your next meal (unless you get broke).
• SPEND WISELY Take control of your finances. Make sure that necessities are paid for each month. Don't be an impulse spender.
• SAVE Always save for a rainy day. Paydays don't happen everyday.
• SET YOUR GOALS AND REACH THEM Your ultimate goal is to build your future.
• ENJOY LIFE! Work hard. Play hard. Reward yourself for a job well done.
• CONTEMPLATE & PRAY Make sure that you don't lose track of things. Pray for strength and guidance.

UNLIMITED RICE!!!

Recession has brought people cutting down on their budget. A lot are out of work and those who are working have less disposable income. Thus, they tend to look for ways to minimize their spending.

We have heard of people who lost their jobs both abroad and here in Manila. A lot of businesses have shut down, and some are still struggling. Some still manage to survive, and these are the ones that have clever ideas.

I was on my way home from work one day and needed to stop by the mall to buy some materials I needed for a project. I usually would take the shuttle but I just walked this time. The sun was almost down anyway and the weather was unusually cold. I chanced upon a group of young men who were in their white uniform T-shirts at the back of a shopping center called St Francis Square, just right behind SM Megamall. I knew that they were having lunch because that area is lined with food stalls but I thought something else was going on. As I made my way near them, some lady approached me and aggressively invited me to eat. "Unlimited rice Sir, with 2 ulam* ", she exclaimed! I was surprised that they were offering that at such a low price.

For PhP 50.00 (around US$1) you get to have your choice of one meat dish & one vegetable dish. The combo also includes a bowl of hot soup. Though I was a bit pressured to sit down, I ordered two dishes & a cup of rice and wondered how it tasted. Surprisingly, it wasn't bad at all. I had a total of three cups of rice, and a very full stomach.

It's been quite a while since I went to a restaurant that had the same promo. One of the most familiar places to have such an unlimited rice offer is Tokyo Tokyo. I used to go there a lot especially when I had a very early morning work shift. Though prices at Tokyo Tokyo are pretty affordable, you would consider it expensive after trying the ones at the St. Francis alley.

One of the newer food chains that offer unlimited rice is Mang Inasal, a fast growing local food company that especializes in grilled chicken products. If you work around the Ortigas Center area and is trying to tighten your belt and get more than your money's worth, this is a pretty decent place to visit.
